Japanese Naval Ensign – Kyokujitsu-ki (ca. 1930s)

🏯 Captured in 1945 from the Glen Line Building – former Japanese naval HQ in Shanghai.

According to provenance, this Kyokujitsu-ki was seized by a U.S. Marine in 1945 from the Glen Line Building at No. 28 Beijing Road, Shanghai. The building – once the U.S. Consulate – served as Japanese naval offices throughout the war.

This original wool flag (designated Size 4) features the traditional 16-ray sunburst and reinforced hoist edge. It likely flew over the naval administration daily until Japan’s surrender.
