Mode guide
Normal is the standard first search and usually takes about 5 seconds.

Deep searches more broadly and may help when Normal gives poor or strange results. It is slower and usually takes about 15 seconds.

How to use it

• Upload / drop image: Click the preview box, use “Upload new image”, or drag an image directly into it.
• Rotate: Use the rotate button if the uploaded image is sideways or upside down.
• Crop: After the image is loaded and rotated, drag across the preview to isolate the flag or symbol. Leave uncropped to search the full image.
• Normal: Use this first. It is the standard search mode and works best for clean images and obvious flag designs.
• Deep: Use this when Normal gives weak results, when the image is partial, distorted, unusual, or when the first matches look suspicious.
• Verify manually: Open the returned FOTW page and compare the actual flag, proportions, caption, and context.

About this tool

This is a BETA visual search tool built to help identify unknown flags from photos. It compares an uploaded image against a local FlagGeek search index based on FOTW-linked flag imagery. The purpose is to help find possible matches, related designs, and useful source pages faster than manual browsing or normal reverse image search.

The result can be very uneven. A visually similar flag may appear high in the list even when it is not the correct identification, and a correct match may appear lower if the uploaded image is distorted, poorly cropped, faded, photographed at an angle, or dominated by background.

If the first result looks wrong, try cropping tightly around the flag itself, rotate sideways or upside-down photos with the rotate button, remove background, avoid shadows or table surfaces, and try both search modes. This tool is still being improved, so treat the output as a research lead — not as final proof.

Credit: The searchable reference material is based on images and page links from Flags of the World (FOTW). FOTW remains the source reference for the linked material. FlagGeek provides this search interface as a visual lookup and research aid.
